There are many ways to measure success in business, and you can correlate outcomes to the leaders in place at a given time. In other words, leaders A, B and C led the company to its $1B exit. That measurement is fine and good, and certainly something to be appreciated and admired.
I have learned, however, the true measure of a leader is how many future leaders they develop and help grow so that they, in turn, do the same. My hope is that the people whom I work with and lead will go on to reach top leadership roles wherever they go, throughout their careers.
This is my measure of a leader. What is yours?
